Seven scholarships available to Somerville residents in the Class of 2026; Apply by deadline March 27, 2026
Somerville’s 2026 high school graduates are invited to apply for City of Somerville Municipal Scholarships designed to help students launch their next steps be that professional training, college, or a job in the trades. Selected applicants will receive $2,000 to help with post-secondary education expenses including tuition, professional programs and certifications, and union fees. The deadline to apply is March 27, 2026.

Community survey open until April 3; Public hearing on April 22
Have you strolled through Ken Kelly Park, ridden the elevator at West Branch Library, or heard about the Clarendon Hill redevelopment project? These are just a few examples of projects come to life with the help of Somerville’s Community Preservation Act (CPA) program, which provides $7 million in funding each year to support open space, recreation, historic preservation, and affordable housing projects.

Second Chance Cars partners with Somerville High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) automotive program to refurbish donated vehicles, which are then provided to individuals in need for work transportation. Students gain hands-on experience repairing cars, while recipients – often single parents or veterans – receive affordable, reliable transportation.

As part of an ongoing criminal investigation, the Somerville Police Department served a search warrant in East Somerville on March 5, 2026. During the search, investigators located a .380 caliber Bersa Firestorm handgun along with two loaded magazines. Further investigation revealed that the firearm was possessed illegally and had been reported stolen in Texas.

Somerville Media Center to present Public Service Award to former Mayor of Somerville Joe Curtatone
Please join Somerville Media Center in honoring former Mayor Joe Curtatone with our Public Service Award on Thursday, June 4, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Arts at the Armory, 119 Highland Ave, in Somerville. The celebratory evening will feature cheeses and specialty bites provided by Formaggio Kitchen and more, tasty drinks from Arts at the Armory, live music by Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, raffles, and a special presentation honoring Joe Curtatone’s long-standing advocacy for community media and Somerville Media Center. Proceeds from the event will directly support our programs and services.

Witness first-hand the boiling of sap collected from maple trees on the Tufts campus in partnership with an Environmental Field Studies class, learn the process and history of sugaring, how you can support urban trees and connect outdoors with other folks in the community.
